Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined Rs.12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate as they pulled off an incredulous two-run victory over Punjab Kings in their opening Indian Premier League match at Dubai International Stadium.
The IPL had released a statement, saying that Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 match against Punjab Kings at the Dubai International Stadium on the 21st of September. The league continued stating that as it was his team’s first offence in this season, Samson will be fined Rs. 12 lakhs by the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offence.
The two teams were playing their first match after the resumption of the tournament on the 19th of September. The Royals posted a score of 185 in 20 overs but were all out due to a collapse which led to them losing their six wickets for just 19 runs. Punjab Kings were the favourites throughout the innings as their openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal provided an amazing start to their chase. They got dismissed but Punjab still ended up just needing 4 runs off the last over and with eight wickets remaining. Royals bowler Kartik Tyagi ended up taking 2 wickets and conceded only one run from the last over to lead his team to a ridiculous victory.
The next match will be between Sunrisers Hyderabad and table toppers Delhi Capitals at the Dubai International Stadium.
