Phil Salt joins Kolkata Knight Riders squad for IPL 2024 as Jason Roy withdraws from tournament

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced the inclusion of England’s Phil Salt in their squad for the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Salt joins KKR as a replacement for Jason Roy, who withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons.

This marks Salt’s second stint in the IPL, having previously represented the Delhi Capitals. Despite going unsold in the auction last year, Salt impressed during his time with the Capitals, featuring in nine matches and amassing 218 runs at an average of 27.25. Notably, he recorded two half-centuries, with a highest score of 87.

In contrast, Jason Roy, Salt’s compatriot, boasts a wealth of IPL experience, having played 21 matches in the tournament. Throughout his IPL career, Roy has accumulated 614 runs at an average of 32.32, representing franchises like Gujarat Lions, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, before joining KKR in 2023.

With Salt’s arrival, KKR aims to bolster their batting lineup and maintain their competitive edge as they gear up for the forthcoming IPL season.
