Chahal vs KKR: A nightmare for Kolkata

This was Chahal’s third 4-plus wicket haul against KKR, the most by any bowler against a single opponent in IPL history. His consistent ability to trouble KKR batters has made him one of their fiercest opponents.

On a night when PBKS defended just 111 runs—the lowest successful defence in IPL history—Chahal’s strikes in the middle overs turned the game on its head. His scalps included key dismissals of Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh in consecutive deliveries, shifting the momentum firmly in PBKS’s favour.

PBKS have now successfully defended the lowest score ever in IPL history. After not being able to defend 245 in their last game, this victory felt like sweet redemption. The scenes in their dugout and in the crowd resembled utter madness. Everyone was roaring, hugging, and clearing their throats.

KKR, meanwhile, looked like a kid whose favorite toys had been stolen right under their noses. Such contrasting emotions. Ajinkya Rahane still managed a smile as he walked out for the post-match handshakes.

At the innings break, everyone wondered how quickly KKR would chase this down. But PBKS had other plans.

Two early wickets gave them hope, but Rahane and Raghuvanshi steadied the ship for KKR. The turning point came when Rahane, who chose not to review his LBW despite impact being outside off, walked off. From there, Chahal, who had not had a great tournament till now, spun a web and bowled an outstanding spell, well supported by Glenn Maxwell, Arshdeep Singh, and Marco Jansen.

Once Chahal found his rhythm, wickets began to tumble. Russell gave KKR hope with 16 runs off one Chahal over, but Arshdeep and Jansen returned to remove Vaibhav Arora and finally Russell, sending the New Chandigarh crowd into delirium.
