Overrate Penalty, Unfair movement by fielder or wicketkeeper, impact player rule…: BCCI brings in additional rule changes to TATA IPL 2023

Earlier the reports stated that the new IPL playing conditions will allow captains to walk in with two different team sheets, allowing them to change their playing XI depending on the toss decision.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to implement major rule changes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) beginning with the 2023 season. Following the implementation of the ‘impact player’ rule, the cash-rich league is set to see changes to several playing conditions, including the time of announcing the starting XI. The new impact player rule means that teams will be able to announce their starting lineup after the coin toss.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the new IPL playing conditions will allow captains to walk in with two different team sheets, allowing them to change their playing XI depending on the toss decision – whether they are batting first or bowling first – and fully utilize the impact player rule.

“Currently the captains have to exchange the teams before the toss. This has been changed to exchange of teams immediately post the toss, to enable teams to choose the best XI depending on whether they are batting or bowling first. It will also assist the teams to plan for the impact player,” the playing conditions note was quoted as saying in the report.
