Nitish Rana selflessly passes Captain’s baton to Shreyas Iyer, remains loyal to KKR

In a strategic move, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reinstated Shreyas Iyer as their captain for the upcoming IPL season, marking his return to the squad after missing the previous edition due to injury. Iyer’s stand-in skipper from the last season, Nitish Rana, has been named as the deputy captain for IPL 2024.

Reflecting on the challenges faced in the last season, Iyer expressed his delight at being back in the captain’s role. “I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including my absence due to injury. Nitish did a great job not only filling in for me but also with his commendable leadership. I am delighted that KKR has named him Vice Captain. No doubt it will strengthen the leadership group,” stated Iyer in a team-released statement.

Kolkata Knight Riders had a subpar performance in the previous season, finishing seventh overall and bowing out in the group stages under the captaincy of Nitish Rana.

Expressing enthusiasm about Iyer’s return, Venky Mysore, the CEO, commented, “It was indeed unfortunate that Shreyas missed IPL 2023 due to injury. We are delighted that he’s back and at the helm as Captain. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character.”
