Cricket has given way to several fascinating stories but few as heart-warming as that of Nandre Burger, a South African left-arm medium-fast bowler who went from local challenges to become a global presence.
Born on August 11, 1995, in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, Nandre Burger’s career began in the local circuits where he spearheaded the Gauteng’s first-class debut in the 2015–16 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup. Burger’s stint with the domestic cricket quickly materialized, and he would soon find himself collecting a respectable paycheck of INR 50 lakhs after being picked by the Rajasthan Royals, according to the IPL 2024 auction .
However impressive, his international debut year with South Africa where he showed up in all three strands of the game and had an eye-catching performance against India, is just a strand of the story. His ability to swing the ball early and late in the delivery ensured that he was able to limit the opposition’s strike and chip in the odd wickets himself.
In one of the ODIs, he also muscled his way to a match-winning three-fer and his length in T20 is 52 feathers on 44 stints with a tight economy to back it up at 7.40.
His journey began in the 2015–16 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup when he made his debut. Burger quickly provided proof of his class when he emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge finalizing that season with 29 dismissals in 11 innings at 18.37.
His career turned up a notch when he was selected to play for Cricket South Africa’s Emerging Squad in July 2018. The same year, he played for Gauteng in the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, where he dominated as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 11 wickets at 14.45.
Fast-forward to 2023 and he would mark his international debut for South Africa, leading to his IPL selection.
While Burger’s personal endeavors are tabloid fodder, his off-field ambitions are more inconspicuous. In a long-standing relationship with Arch Ashleigh McDonald of Cape Town, Burger’s life comes with a personal narrative as well.
Born on February 3, 1992, Arch lives and breathes architecture although she is not from around the area. The couple hasn’t confirmed their marriage yet, and according to our sources, Nandre Burger net worth as of December 2023, is $5 million.
