Mumbai Indians faces blow as new skipper Hardik Pandya doubtful for IPL

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season is in doubt due to an ankle injury sustained during India’s 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh. Pandya recently returned to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the new IPL campaign.

However, several major media outlets like NDTV have reported Pandya may take an extended break to ensure full fitness for the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to PTI, Pandya is unlikely to quickly recover from his ankle injury, ruling him out of the upcoming Afghanistan series and potentially the 2023 IPL season.

As the newly announced skipper for Mumbai Indians, Pandya’s absence would be a major blow. But with the 2024 T20 World Cup in sight, Pandya may prioritize recovery to avoid aggravating the injury.

Mumbai will be hoping their star all-rounder can regain full fitness in time for at least part of the 2023 IPL. But Pandya’s injury concerns mean his participation remains doubtful ahead of the new season.
