Media denied access to stadiums during IPL 2020, post-match press conference to take place virtually

Media personnel will not be allowed to enter the stadium during the IPL 2020 matches due to health safety protocols. BCCI will provide 35 pictures from each match for editorial purposes.

The IPL 2020 has brought a lot of firsts and media denied access to the stadiums is also one of them. Media will not be allowed in the stadiums due to strict health safety protocols set in place. COVID-19 pandemic is far from over and no risks are being taken said BCCI a day poor to the IPL 2020 opener. There will be no pre-match press conference while post-match meet is made compulsory, which would take place virtually.

“The Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is being held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Owing to the health and safety concerns, media personnel will not have access to the stadium to cover the games or team practice sessions,” the BCCI stated in a media release.

“Additionally, this year, owing to the circumstances, there will be no new media registrations barring the UAE media,” the Board added, which means only outlets in the gulf can register for official updates.“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recognises the high interest in the league and will facilitate virtual post-match press conferences after each match to the media,” it added.

The BCCI will provide 35 images per match to the media that is already associated with the BCCI. The media will receive details regarding joining the press conference and can send in questionnaires that they want to ask the players. “The images must be used for editorial purposes and be credited with BCCI/IPL on every platform,” it said in its release.
