LSG owner remains non-committal on KL Rahul’s future for IPL 2025

The future of KL Rahul with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) remains unclear as the IPL 2025 season approaches. Despite leading LSG to the playoffs in two of the last three seasons, Rahul’s return for the upcoming season is uncertain.

The speculation about Rahul’s future began after a conversation between him and LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka last season, following a heavy defeat by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Various reports have suggested that Rahul might leave the team or that Goenka might consider a change in leadership. However, no final decision has been made yet.

Recently, Rahul met with Goenka in Kolkata to discuss his potential retention ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. While Rahul expressed his desire to stay with LSG, Goenka has not made any commitments. His reluctance is partly due to the fact that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the rules for the upcoming auction.

At a press conference announcing Zaheer Khan as LSG’s mentor for IPL 2025, Goenka was asked about Rahul’s future. He described Rahul as integral to the team and like family to him and his son, Shashwat. Despite this, Goenka avoided confirming Rahul’s role as captain for the next season, stating that there is still plenty of time to make a decision and that everything needs to be carefully considered.

The lack of a clear statement has led to confusion and speculation among fans and analysts. While Goenka acknowledges Rahul’s importance to the team, his indecision reflects the broader uncertainty surrounding team strategies for the next IPL season.
