One of the most enticing league stages of IPL has finally come to an end. After Kolkata Knight Rider’s 86 run victory over Rajasthan Royals, they have virtually qualified for the Playoffs. With Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore in commanding positions, it was only a matter of win for KKR, since they had occupied the 4th spot on the table for a long time. However, they will have to wait for today’s match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad to get over, in order to receive an official stamp of qualification.

Mumbai will have to make an impossible climb to meet the requisite Net Run Rate, as KKR strengthens theirs after the win against RR on Thursday. Otherwise, MI fans are in for a huge disappointment this season, as it seems like the defending champions won’t be able to qualify for the playoffs. Indian Commentator Harsha Bhogle after KKR’s match against RR tweeted, “I guess we have our qualifiers……”

IPL 2021 has been a season of ups and downs. The only two teams who can be called the dominators of this season are DC and CSK. While RCB did manage to stay relevant throughout the season, by maintaining their position in the top half of the table, they too looked vulnerable at times. The fourth spot on the table was the corridor of uncertainty throughout the season and will remain that way until the final ball of this season is bowled.

This does not mean that the action in the top half of the table is all about the fourth spot’s contention. There is another match that will have everyone glued to the screen and that is DC taking on RCB on Friday which will also be the last league game of IPL 2021. Even when DC is certain to remain at the top spot, CSK is a little susceptible. There are very very slender chances though that RCB, even if they beat DC, will be able to make it to the top 2, considering the vast gap between the Net Run Rates of RCB and CSK. The final two matches of the season will start on Friday at 07:30 pm simultaneously.
