KKR captain Shreyas Iyer is fighting a back injury. In the past year or so, the rear of the Indian batter has experienced numerous problems. In order to play in the second half of the IPL, he has chosen not to have surgery and is presently finishing up his rehabilitation. His return timetable has not yet been updated.

Recently announced – Nitish Rana will serve as the stand-in skipper for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023.

“While we are hopeful that Shreyas will recover and participate at some stage in the IPL 2023 edition, we feel fortunate that Nitish, with the captaincy experience having led his state side in white ball cricket and the IPL experience he has had with KKR since 2018, will do a great job,” a release from the franchise stated.

It remains to be seen if Kiwi pacer Lokie Ferguson can play in the IPL given recent injury worries. Depending on the severity of his injury, he is expected to miss at least KKR’s opening few games of this season. For KKR, who will soon be without their captain Shreyas Iyer because of a back injury, it will be a devastating setback. Last year, Lockie Ferguson took 12 wickets for the Titans, giving him a total of 36 IPL wickets.
