JioCinema, the popular streaming platform, has once again made headlines by setting new records for viewership during the IPL 2023. An astounding 44.9 crore viewers chose JioCinema to enjoy their favorite sporting event, demonstrating the platform’s growing popularity among cricket enthusiasts. JioCinema’s multi-platform approach allowed viewers to access IPL matches on various devices, including mobiles, tablets, laptops/desktops, and Connected TVs.
Notably, the adoption of Connected TVs witnessed a significant surge this season across the country. More than 12.6 crore viewers tuned in to JioCinema using their Connected TVs, showcasing the massive reach of this platform. On average, each viewer spent 65 minutes per match on their Connected TVs, surpassing the average time spent per viewer on linear TV.
In comparison, the reach of IPL on linear TV, including out-of-home viewing for adults aged 15 and above, stands at 37 crore based on BARC reports (excluding the final match). Out-of-home viewing refers to individuals present in restaurants or establishments who may or may not be actively watching the match. By excluding the contribution of out-of-home viewing, the linear TV reach is estimated to be 32.6 crore.
JioCinema’s achievement in capturing such a vast audience demonstrates the increasing trend of viewers opting for digital platforms to enjoy live sports events. The convenience and flexibility offered by JioCinema’s multi-platform accessibility, especially on Connected TVs, have contributed to its remarkable success. As the IPL continues to captivate cricket fans worldwide, JioCinema remains a go-to destination for an immersive and engaging viewing experience.
