Former South Africa keeper-batter coach Mark Boucher has been named the head coach of the Mumbai Indians. After the 2019 T20 World Cup, Boucher, who is now performing the same job for South Africa, will leave the national team.
Mahela Jayawardene, a former captain of Sri Lanka, has been MI’s head coach since 2017. He is replaced by Boucher now. Mumbai Indians have three championships under Mahela’s guidance. Jayawardene has been promoted to a new position as the Global Head of Performance as a result of the franchise expanding its reach and securing teams in both the SA20 and the ILT20.
The club management has promoted Mahela Jayawardene and Zaheer Khan to new positions as members of a central team—Global Head of Performance and Global Head of Cricket Development, respectively—in light of Mumbai Indians Emirates and Mumbai Indians Cape Town joining the MI family.
