This was another opening day dagger in the hearts of the Mumbai franchise as well as its fans as Mumbai Indians just do not seem to be able to win the season openers. The team have won just 4 out of the 13 matches they have played as their season opening game in the IPL, losing all of their last 8 opening matches.

Their last win in their season opening match goes back to April 4, 2012 when they beat the Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets in the 1st match of the 5th edition of the IPL. Mumbai Indians lost their opening game of last season as well to Delhi Capitals, who won by 37 runs at the Wankhede Stadium.

This stat would also mean that Rohit Sharma has never won the opening match of the IPL as a captain. It is surely one of those stats that the Mumbai captain would be eager to get rid of especially after their recent loss to CSK on Saturday night.
