Burger fined after Code of Conduct breach

Nandre Burger has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for a Level 1 offence during Rajasthan Royals’ game against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.

The breach falls under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, relating to language or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction. Burger admitted the offence and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final.

Pace dominates as conditions favour seam

After a 40-run win over Lucknow Super Giants, driven by their pacers’ dominance, Rajasthan Royals now look threatening. The game at Ekana stood out for its conditions. It was not dominated by six-hitting. Instead, fast bowlers controlled the contest.

Thirteen of the 16 wickets in the match went to pacers. Justin Langer was so impressed that he likened the pace and bounce at Ekana Cricket Stadium to the WACA.

The surface offered bounce and carry, drawing comparisons with quicker tracks. Jofra Archer set the tone with pace and control. His spell included a testing passage against Nicholas Pooran, where he consistently pushed the batter back with speed above 150 kph. One of those overs ended as a maiden, a rare occurrence in this format.

Burger and Archer key to RR’s attack

Despite the fine, Burger’s role in the side remains important. He has taken eight wickets in seven matches and continues to be a key option with the new ball. Alongside Archer, he forms a pace combination that has been difficult to handle.

Rajasthan Royals have relied on this pairing to control the early overs and build pressure. Captain Riyan Parag noted the advantage of having multiple pace options capable of operating in the powerplay. For now, their bowling unit looks settled, with pace leading their approach.
