Fans question Pooran’s form after string of low scores and fielding lapses

Concerns around Nicholas Pooran have grown during the ongoing Indian Premier League season, with fans openly questioning his performances for Lucknow Super Giants. The left-hander has managed just 41 runs in four innings, with scores of 8, 1, 13 and 19, averaging 10.25 at a strike rate of 85.41.

While numbers alone can reflect a lean patch, it is his work in the field that has drawn sharper reactions. Dropped chances, slow movement and what some fans describe as a lack of intent have added to the frustration. One moment in particular, where he failed to stop a routine ball, has triggered debate online. “Dropping a catch is understandable, but not even trying?” read one widely shared reaction.

The criticism comes despite Pooran recently becoming LSG’s all-time leading run-scorer, a sign of his past impact for the side.

Fatigue, role clarity or something more?

Some observers have pointed to workload as a factor. Former India batter Aakash Chopra noted that players involved only in franchise leagues travel constantly, which can affect rhythm and recovery. Pooran stepped away from international cricket in June 2025 and has since featured across multiple leagues.

There is also a view that team balance has not helped him. With Rishabh Pant in the side, Pooran’s role has shifted, at times leaving him out of preferred positions.

Still, the tone of fan reaction has gone further, with some raising serious allegations without evidence. That raises a question is this simply a dip in form and confidence, or are frustrations turning into unfair accusations?

For LSG, the concern is immediate. Two recent defeats have put pressure on the middle order. Ahead of a big match, Lucknow Super Giants will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru on 15th April, with key players’ form a growing concern, whether Pooran can respond quickly may shape their campaign.
