Delhi Capitals recovered from 26 for 4 to beat Lucknow Super Giants, with Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs producing a key fifth-wicket stand. Their unbeaten 119-run partnership now sits among the highest fifth-wicket stands in IPL history.

Rizvi and Stubbs steady the chase

Rizvi and Stubbs took control after the early collapse and rebuilt the innings with patience. Rizvi led the way with an unbeaten 64 from 46 balls, while Stubbs added 39. They focused on rotation and avoided unnecessary risks before targeting the loose balls as the innings progressed. Lucknow tried to break the stand with pace variations and short deliveries, but the pair stayed composed and kept the chase on track. Their approach was measured, with both batters taking time to assess the pitch before increasing the tempo. The strike rotation helped reduce pressure and kept the required rate within reach.

Highest 5th Wicket Partnerships in IPL

The stand changed the game. From a difficult position, Delhi moved towards the target with control and clarity. Once set, both batters increased the scoring rate and denied Lucknow any chance of a comeback. Rizvi played the anchor role while also finding boundaries at regular intervals, and Stubbs supported him with clean hitting and smart running between the wickets. The partnership of 119 now joins some notable IPL fifth-wicket stands, including Yusuf Pathan and Shakib Al Hasan’s 134*, David Miller and Rajagopal Sathish’s 130, and AB de Villiers with Marcus Stoinis’ 121. Delhi completed the chase in the 18th over, sealing a six-wicket win and turning a difficult situation into a comfortable result through one strong partnership.
