Spinners dictate terms on balanced Chepauk surface

Akeal Hosein said it was good to see a proper cricket wicket at Chepauk, one that offered something for everyone. It was not a flat surface, and the spinners made the most of the assistance available. Both sides relied on spin through the middle overs, but Chennai Super Kings executed better.

KKR’s spinners returned figures of 2 for 68 in 10 overs, keeping things tight at phases. However, CSK’s attack was more effective. They picked up four wickets for 47 in eight overs, applying consistent pressure. Noor Ahmad stood out with 3 for 21 in his four overs, while Hussain chipped in with 1 for 26, maintaining control.

CSK defend total as KKR fall short again

CSK posted 192 for 5 and went on to secure the win, marking the first successful defence of a sub-200 total this season. The bowlers ensured that KKR never settled in the chase, with regular wickets breaking any momentum.

Kolkata Knight Riders once again showed glimpses but failed to close the game. Their batters struggled to handle sustained spin pressure, raising questions about their approach against slower bowling. Could they have rotated strike better, or taken fewer risks?

For CSK, the performance underlined their ability to adapt to conditions. The spinners read the surface well and executed their plans without overcomplicating things. On a pitch that rewarded discipline, that made the difference.
