Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered a convincing five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a high-octane clash. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, LSG’s decision paid off as Shardul Thakur delivered a career-best performance to derail SRH’s batting lineup.
Thakur struck early in his second over, dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in quick succession. He continued his dominance, finishing with figures of 4/34 in four overs. This stellar performance not only earned him the coveted Purple Cap but also marked his 100th wicket in the IPL. Despite a valiant effort from Travis Head (47 off 28) and Nitish Reddy (32 off 28), SRH struggled to build momentum and ended their innings at 190/9.
Pooran, Marsh power LSG to victory
Chasing 191, LSG suffered an early blow as opener Aiden Markram fell cheaply for just 1. However, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran turned the tide with an explosive partnership. Pooran played a match-winning knock, smashing 70 runs off just 26 balls at a staggering strike rate of 269.23.
Marsh provided solid support with a well-compiled 52 off 31 deliveries, ensuring LSG stayed ahead in the chase. SRH bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Cummins being the only standout performer, picking up two crucial wickets. David Miller (13*) and Abdul Samad (22*) finished the chase in style, as LSG reached the target in just 16.1 overs.
LSG off to a flying start
This victory marked LSG’s first win of the season, setting the tone for their campaign. Meanwhile, SRH will look to bounce back and address their bowling concerns in the upcoming matches.
