IPL 2025: Moeen Ali opts out, Rovman Powell’s participation uncertain; KKR eyes replacements

In a fresh blow to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Moeen Ali has opted out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to personal reasons, while Rovman Powell remains doubtful owing to an unspecified injury, confirms ESPN Cricinfo. Powell, who was with the West Indies contingent in Dubai, is currently under medical evaluation, and the franchise is exploring short-term replacement options.

On a brighter note, Quinton de Kock, Spencer Johnson, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have all arrived in Bengaluru and are set to join the team’s training sessions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the season’s resumption on May 17, when KKR face RCB.

Meanwhile, Josh Hazlewood’s arrival date remains unclear, putting his availability for Saturday’s match in doubt. RCB have received a boost with Liam Livingstone and Romario Shepherd rejoining the squad, while Jacob Bethell is also back with the team.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has granted NOCs for IPL participation until May 25, aligning with the original IPL final date. However, with the England vs West Indies ODI series beginning May 29, the availability of players like Romario Shepherd and Jacob Bethell beyond that remains uncertain.

KKR may need to adjust their overseas lineup swiftly as they push for playoff contention amid these last-minute changes.
