In a surprising departure from his usual explosive style, Travis Head endured an uncharacteristically slow knock before falling for 28 off 29 balls in the 33rd match of IPL 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.
Head’s sluggish innings finally came to an end in the 12th over when he attempted a lofted drive off Will Jacks but could only manage a mistimed shot straight into the safe hands of Mitchell Santner at long-off. It was Jacks’ second wicket of the match and a crucial one for Mumbai, as the SRH innings appeared to be losing momentum.
This was Head’s second dismissal attempt in just a few deliveries. Moments earlier, he was caught off Hardik Pandya, but a siren indicated a no-ball, giving him a temporary reprieve. However, he couldn’t capitalise on the second chance.
Head struggled to find rhythm throughout his stay at the crease, managing just three boundaries and failing to accelerate as expected in the middle overs. His strike rate of 96.55 was well below par for a batter of his reputation, especially in the T20 format.
At the fall of his wicket, SRH were 82/3 in 11.1 overs with Heinrich Klaasen walking in next to join Nitish Kumar Reddy. With Head gone, Sunrisers will now hope for a stronger finish from their experienced middle-order.
Score update at 11.1 overs:
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 82/3
Travis Head: 28 (29)
Will Jacks: 2.1-0-13-2
