The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have re-released their iconic 2008 black-gold jersey ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season opener, triggering a wave of nostalgia among fans.
Originally worn during the inaugural season of the IPL, the vintage kit sold out in less than 10 minutes on the official KKR store, reflecting the overwhelming demand.
The jersey was first introduced when Sourav Ganguly captained the team in 2008. With the franchise now having three IPL titles to its name, the re-release is seen as a tribute to KKR’s legacy and its loyal fan base. The black-gold design has been retained, while the fit and material have been updated to reflect modern performance standards.
KKR’s decision to bring back the jersey comes as the IPL 2025 season begins with a marquee match at Eden Gardens on March 22, 2025. The team will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opener, with Ajinkya Rahane leading the side. Notably, Eden Gardens also hosted the first-ever IPL match in 2008, making this gesture a nod to the franchise’s journey from its inception to the present.
