Rahul’s new journey with Delhi Capitals
Rahul’s temple visit comes as he embarks on a new chapter in his IPL career after leaving Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG). The 31-year-old was bought by the team in mega-auctions for a price of 14 crore. He was reportedly offered the captaincy of DC but declined the role, choosing instead to focus solely on his batting. With Rahul stepping aside, all-rounder Axar Patel has been appointed as DC’s captain, while veteran South African batter Faf du Plessis will serve as his deputy.
Rahul brings a wealth of experience to Delhi, having played 132 IPL matches and amassed 4,683 runs, including 37 half-centuries and four centuries. His ability to anchor an innings and accelerate when needed makes him a key asset for the franchise. Before his stint with LSG from 2022 to 2024, he was an integral part of Punjab Kings, where he established himself as one of the league’s premier batters.
Rahul’s performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy
Before shifting focus to the IPL, Rahul played a key role for India in the recently concluded 2025 ICC Champions Trophy triumph. Batting in the middle order, he provided crucial stability to the Indian lineup and delivered consistent performances under pressure especially in knockout matches including the semi-final against Australia and the final against New Zealand. His ability to counter pace and spin alike made him a vital asset for the team, helping India reach the final of the tournament.
With DC to play their first match against LSG on 24 March, Rahul will be eager to take on the new role in Delhi’s franchise as the team , led by Axar Patel, will be aiming for a strong campaign, and Rahul’s presence in the top order could play a crucial role in their fortunes.
