IPL 2025: Jos Buttler smashes five consecutive fours off Mitchell Starc as Gujarat Titans close in on 204-run chase

Jos Buttler lit up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with a breathtaking display of strokeplay as he smashed five consecutive fours off Mitchell Starc in the 15th over, bringing the Gujarat Titans closer to a mammoth 204-run target against Delhi Capitals in Match 35 of IPL 2025.

Buttler, who had already looked in imperious touch, took apart Starc in an over that yielded 20 runs. Starting from 14.1, Buttler struck the Australian left-arm pacer through extra cover, backward point, third man, mid-off, and deep square leg—each boundary showcasing a blend of timing, placement, and brute force. The fifth four, albeit a mishit, flew past a diving fielder and added to DC’s growing woes.

Despite suffering from cramps midway, Buttler powered through, reaching 82* off just 46 balls, with 10 fours and three sixes. His ongoing partnership with Sherfane Rutherford (32* off 23) has now crossed 90 runs, guiding GT to 164/2 in 15.5 overs. With just 40 required from 25 balls, Gujarat Titans are in a commanding position to pull off one of the most thrilling chases of the season.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals posted 203/8, riding on a collective batting effort. But Buttler’s counterattack—especially against Starc who had been DC’s hero in their last outing—has turned the tide in dramatic fashion.
