Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start in their IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans, racing to 16 runs without loss in the opening over. Despite Mohammed Siraj being Gujarat’s most impressive bowler this season, the right-arm pacer had a forgettable first over, leaking 16 runs that included two boundaries, a six, and a couple of wides.
It was Abishek Porel who took the charge early, smashing Siraj for a pair of fours and a well-timed six over deep square leg. The onslaught began with Siraj’s control faltering, as he delivered back-to-back wides to start his spell. Porel quickly capitalised, finding the gaps and clearing the ropes with ease.
Siraj has been a key force in Gujarat’s bowling attack so far this season, known for his sharp new-ball spells and economical powerplay overs. But in sweltering Ahmedabad conditions and on a batting-friendly pitch, even he couldn’t contain Delhi’s aggressive start.
The Gujarat Titans had opted to bowl first after winning the toss, banking on early breakthroughs to control the innings. However, Delhi’s openers, especially Porel, have thrown down the gauntlet right from ball one.
With the tone already set, this game promises plenty of fireworks in the first innings itself.
