IPL 2025, CSK vs MI: Rohit Sharma equals Maxwell and Karthik’s record for most ducks in IPL history with 18 dismissals

In a surprising start to his IPL 2025 campaign, Rohit Sharma registered a duck during Mumbai Indians’ clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With this, the veteran opener has now joined Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik at the top of an unwanted list — most ducks in Indian Premier League history, all with 18 dismissals.

The incident occurred in the third over of the innings when CSK pacer Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Rohit for a four-ball duck. Attempting a flick, Rohit found Shivam Dube at mid-wicket, marking a soft dismissal and handing CSK an early breakthrough. This also marked the third time Khaleel has removed Rohit in the IPL.

Rohit’s dismissal adds to a growing trend of early exits for experienced batters in high-pressure games. His record now stands at 18 ducks in 258 IPL matches. He shares the top spot with Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik, who also have 18 ducks each. Closely behind is Piyush Chawla with 16.

Most ducks in IPL history:

  • Glenn Maxwell – 18 ducks (134 matches)
  • Dinesh Karthik – 18 ducks (257 matches)
  • Rohit Sharma – 18 ducks (258 matches)*
  • Piyush Chawla – 16 ducks (192 matches)

Despite the disappointment, Rohit Sharma remains one of the most prolific run-scorers in IPL history, with over 6,600 runs and two centuries to his name. However, this record is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of T20 cricket.

Mumbai Indians will be hoping that their senior batter bounces back strong in the coming games as the tournament progresses.
