Chennai Super Kings made an interesting move in their second innings of the IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians by sending Rahul Tripathi in as an impact substitute in place of Khaleel Ahmed. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians chose to sub out Rohit Sharma, bringing in youngster Vignesh Puthur for the second innings at Chepauk.
Mumbai Indians were put to the test on a spin-friendly surface at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and failed to counter Chennai’s spin trio, with Noor Ahmad emerging as the star performer. MI’s batting never quite took off as they lost Rohit Sharma early, followed by quick wickets of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks. A 51-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma offered some resistance, but Noor Ahmad turned the game around with a sensational spell—claiming the wickets of SKY, Tilak, and debutant Robin Minz in a single over. Noor finished with magical figures of 4/18, marking the best-ever performance by a CSK spinner against Mumbai Indians.
Despite the top-order collapse, Deepak Chahar’s late cameo ensured MI crossed the 150-run mark, setting a target of 156 for CSK.
As the second innings resumed after an entertainment-filled innings break, Chennai surprised fans with Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi opening the batting instead of regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. With Trent Boult handed the new ball for MI, the game was perfectly poised for a thrilling chase under the Chepauk lights.
