IPL 2024: MI signs Luke Wood as a replacement for injured Jason Behrendorff; Suryakumar Yadav’s fitness yet to be 100% recovered

Mumbai Indians have named English pacer Luke Wood as the replacement for the injured Australian fast-bowler Jason Behrendorff for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

The 28-year-old has bagged 147 wickets from 140 matches in the world of T20 cricket while also maintaining an economy rate of 8.45. The five-time IPL champions recruited him for INR 50 lakhs. Wood made an international debut in 2022 and made his first-class debut in 2014. He has an impressive franchise cricket background and previously competed in The Hundred for Trent Rockets.

Wood was also one of the key player in Sylhet Strikers’ wheel in the Bangladesh Premier League 2022-23 season, as took them to the final despite losing it. With Behrendorff sidelined, Mumbai Indians will have to pay the price. This is even more troubling since Suryakumar Yadav’s status is unknown.

MI head coach Mark Boucher stated, “We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always grappled with fitness issues, but we boast a world-class medical team. While we may face setbacks in terms of fitness, we must persevere, as is the nature of sport.”
