IPL franchise Delhi Capitals fell in another trouble after their star pacer Lungi Ngidi had to be ruled out but fortunately enough DC signs Jake Fraser-McGurk after Lungi Ngidi is out due to injury. Australian top-order batter Jake Fraser-McGurk will be excited to debut in the cash-rich league.
Ngidi was recovering from the lower-back injury he suffered in the SA20 series earlier this year. Fraser-McGurk, who played 3 games for Dubai Capitals in this season’s ILT20, will play for Delhi Capitals for the base price of INR 50 lakh.
Fraser-McGurk did remarkably well in the ILT20 this season; he scored 109 runs across 3 innings, with a high score of 54 at a strike rate of 213.72. Legspinner Fraser-McGurk is listed as an allrounder in the IPL auction last season. However, he has bowled only 4 overs in professional cricket till now, and only 1 over in T20s.
However, Fraser-McGurk, 21, was hailed by Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting as a future all-format star for Australia. He made his debut last month and played 2 ODIs against West Indies at home. Fraser-McGurk has played a total of 37 T20 matches and has a strike rate of 133.54.
Earlier, Business Upturn had hinted that Fraser-McGurk could be signed. Speaking of Lungi Ngidi, Delhi will be his second team, as his IPL career of becoming a stop has finally come to fruition, after he started his IPL playing for Chennai Super Kings in 2018. Acquired by Delhi in the 2022 auction, Ngidi has played 14 IPL matches, picking 25 wickets, and has an economy of 8.30. With Ngidi out, Delhi’s pace attack will now consist of Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Jhye Richardson, and Rasikh Salam.
Mitchell Marsh is their fast-bowling allrounder. Meanwhile, Harry Brook of England has pulled out of IPL 2024 after his grandmother died in February. It remains to be seen whom the overseas franchise picks as Brook’s replacement.
