The incident happened during the 20th over of the match, when Pathirana bowled a wide full-toss outside the leg-stump to Padikkal. Padikkal flicked and missed, but the ball went towards the right of Dhoni, who dived to his right to stop it. In one swift motion, Dhoni got up and flicked the ball back to hit the stumps directly. Dhruv Jurel, who was trying to make it back to the crease, was caught short and run out for 34 runs off 15 deliveries, including 3 fours and 2 sixes.
