After wreaking havoc at Chepauk against the Delhi Capitals (DC), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni shared his approach during the crucial overs towards the end of the match.
CSK, famously known as the yellow outfit, continued their winning streak in the ongoing IPL by defeating David Warner’s Capitals by 27 runs, marking their seventh consecutive victory.
For those unfamiliar, the 41-year-old displayed his aggressive batting prowess during the 19th over of the first innings, facing Khaleel Ahmed.
Dhoni unleashed two massive sixes and a boundary, accumulating 20 runs in the over, which significantly contributed to CSK’s total of 167 runs.
Reflecting on the match, Dhoni mentioned that he prefers adopting an aggressive role during the death overs and is not particularly focused on rotating the strike.
Furthermore, he acknowledged that the team’s execution in the first innings may not have been perfect, but he expressed satisfaction that star all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja were able to showcase their batting skills.
“We can still do better as a batting unit. There were a few shots you are better off avoiding on this pitch. There were a couple where the execution was not right; we can live with that. Good thing is, Moeen (Ali) and (Ravindra Jadeja) Jaddu got to bat,” Dhoni told during the post-match presentation.
“As we get closer to the last phase, everyone has a few deliveries under their belt. My job is to hit a few deliveries. Don’t make me run a lot. Happy to contribute whatever deliveries I am getting. That is how I am practising as well,” he added.
