The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a major setback in their chase of 203 runs against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) when their in-form opener Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for a well-made 47 off 29 deliveries. The wicket fell in the 10th over of the innings when Adam Zampa bowled a legbreak within the stumps, forcing Gaikwad to play across the line and slice the ball to Devdutt Padikkal at long-on.
It was a big wicket for RR as Gaikwad was looking in sublime form and had hit five fours and a six in his innings. Zampa’s strategy of bowling legbreaks within the stumps had worked perfectly as it forced the right-handed Gaikwad to target the leg-side and play across the line. The slowish pitch took the ball away from Gaikwad, resulting in a sliced shot and a well-judged catch by Padikkal at long-on.
The dismissal of Gaikwad put CSK in a spot of bother as they were already one wicket down in the power-play overs.
