Today, CSK will play at Chepauk Stadium in front of their home fans for the first time since 2019. Chennai Super Kings are hosting Lucknow Super Giants in their first home match in the IPL. The upcoming match will mark the 68th IPL game at Chepauk.
Cricket fans heading to M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk to watch IPL matches can travel on metro trains for free. They could also catch the action live on giant screens at five metro stations. Chennai Metro Rail Limited has partnered with Chennai Super Kings to provide free metro train rides for IPL and CSK fans on all match days in the city.
In April and May, passengers must produce QR barcode entry tickets to IPL matches to enter the stations and travel to the Government Estate Metro. This is closest to MA Chidambaram Stadium. They can show the same access to return home after the match and need not buy separate train tickets.
At the toss before the game against Lucknow, Dhoni mentioned his excitement to play at home. He said, “It means a lot to be back here. IPL started in 2008, but we’ve not played much cricket here. Only 5-6 seasons here. This is the first time the full stadium will be operational. A few stands were empty earlier.
Glad we can play all our home games here at Chepauk; it means a lot. Same squad for this game. We need to keep assessing our situation and revisiting our targets, keep a realistic goal in mind, and take it from there.”
