Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a unique initiative in a move towards environmental sustainability during the playoffs of the IPL 2023. BCCI announced that they will plant 500 trees for every dot ball played in the playoff matches.
The decision was showcased during the Qualifier 1 game between the Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans. As the dot balls showed up, the scoreboard creatively displayed tree symbols instead of the usual scorecard numbers. It was an innovative way to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and the impact of small actions.
By associating the dot balls with trees, BCCI aims to emphasize the significance of minimizing waste deliveries in cricket and preserving the environment. Each dot ball signifies a missed opportunity for runs but now serves as a reminder of the role we all play in protecting our planet.
