IPL 2023: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja chats with skipper MS Dhoni ahead of the season

Jadeja scored 116 runs at an average of 19. In total, he claimed five wickets at a rate of 7.52.

While Jadeja looks happy in the photos and videos, his future with CSK was uncertain after defeats under his leadership marred the team’s 2022 season.

Last year, Jadeja was appointed captain just two days before the season began. During his tenure, the team embarked on a horrendous run that ultimately resulted in them falling out of contention for the knockout stages. For the second time in the history of the IPL, this occurred. The position of captain was promptly handed over to MS Dhoni, who has captained the team since the first season of the IPL and has guided them to four league titles, including reaching the playoffs in all but one of those seasons.

Cricbuzz reports that the 34-year-old had a “long, frank discussion” with Dhoni and CEO Kasi Viswanathan, during which the parties had misunderstandings. According to reports, Jadeja spoke with Dhoni and Viswanathan regarding “what irked him” and his expectations.

It was reported that Jadeja expressed concern over several factors during the trio’s one-to-one sessions. First, he lost the captaincy, and second, he could not perform. Cricbuzz also reports that the captaincy position may have impacted his performance. Jadeja returned to the CSK camp after India’s third and final ODI against Australia.

As one of CSK’s most potent batters, Jadeja scored 116 runs at an average of 19. In total, he claimed five wickets at a rate of 7.52. In the season opener on March 31, CSK will play Gujarat Titans, the defending champions.
