IPL 2022: “I would just take decision out of his hand even if he’s a captain,” Sanjay Manjrekar slams KL Rahul

“KL should bat quicker rather than longer, he should take the game on and have fun.” say the cricketer turned commentator

On Wednesday KL Rahul scored 79 off 58 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator of IPL 2022 but was unsuccessful in making the Lucknow Super Giants qualify for the next match in a 208 run chase. The former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar criticized Rahul for his lack of urgency as the LSG walked out of the tournament after the loss to RCB.

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo’s show T-20 Time-Out, Manjrekar mentioned where Rahul lacked as a captain when compared to the likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.

“We have seen enough of KL Rahul to know that when he becomes this player, the captain, the key player of the side. I the Virat Kohli love that kind of responsibility. Dhoni loved it. I think Rohit Sharma, barring this season, generally likes that kind of responsibility,” stated the former Indian batter.

He further stated, “Maybe K.L Rahul temperamentally is not suited to take this kind of responsibility where he is the man who has got to get the job done. They are just made of different mettle and maybe K.L Rahul isn’t.”

If I was his coach, I would just take that decision out of his hand even if he’s the captain. For the teams he’s played for, we’ve seen a lot of games where the teams would benefit immensely if KL Rahul just batted quicker rather than longer,” said Manjrekar

Moving to the IPL, since the Royal Challengers Bangalore had defeated the Lucknow Super Giants, now they will be clashing with Rajasthan Royals on the Qualifier -2 at Ahmedabad.
