Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir who is known for his comments and unbalanced speeches applauded former Indian skipper and CSK’s captain MS Dhoni for his decisions on the retention of the players.
Chennai Super King, 3 times IPL champion released just 5 players from their squad Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, and Monu Kumar, Shane Watson already retired from the franchise cricket. They have also received the service of Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals.
The former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir shared his views on the decisions of CSK’s retention after being asked if CSK needed money in their purse that’s why they release Kedar and Piyush? Gambhir said the franchise made the correct decision by not making drastic changes in their squad.
“I feel it is the right strategy. Overall revamp does not mean that you change the entire team. And if you see CSK’s season, it was not that bad a season. Just because there are a lot of expectations from CSK, they had qualified for the playoffs every time, probably because of that we were asking if they need overall revamp,” said Gambhir.
Also, he pointed out MS Dhoni’s tactics of staying in the present rather than getting worried about the future. He also compared the franchise RCB with CSK and demonstrated the reason that RCB failed as a team because they opted for wholesale squad change even after getting qualified for playoffs.
“This is MS Dhoni’s specialty. I have always said that MS Dhoni does not think too far ahead. He only thinks about building a team for a particular season and that is the difference between CSK and RCB. People are saying that CSK has a very bad season and needs an overall revamp but despite that, they have left only five players. On the other hand, RCB has left 10 players even after qualifying for playoffs,” he added.
