The team will call itself Punjab Kings, the formal communication has been done with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The approval is also understood to be approved. The team will make an official announcement a day ahead of IPL auctions.

The official site and no owner yet state any reason behind the change of name and logo of the team. The team saw a lot of ups and downs in IPL 2020. The franchise owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul, has been finished only once as a runner up in 13 editions.
