IPL 2021: Kings XI Punjab retain KL Rahul, releases Maxwell, Nair and Cottrell


Kings XI Punjab, the team that is known for the high-profile cricketers in the team now releases some overrated players and retained their Captain KL Rahul who gave his best in the last edition of IPL to the franchise. KL Rahul also won the orange cap by scoring 670 runs in just 14 matches. The franchise ended at 6th position in IPL 2020 as they lost so many close matches. Kings XI Punjab staged an epic fightback in IPL 2020 after early jitters but it wasn’t enough to earn the K.L. Rahul-led side a Playoffs spot. It won six and lost eight matches to finish with only 12 points.

The franchise released one of the most loved player Glenn Maxwell (10.75) crores and Sheldon Cotrell (8.5) crores ahead of IPL 2021 auction. Karun Nair, the player who did not get enough chances in IPL 2020 to showcase his talent also released by the franchise.

Afghanistan spin bowler Mujeeb ur Rahman, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham, and South Africa quick Hardus Viljoen have also been released

Kings XI Punjab is still waiting for its first-ever IPL trophy. The team hasn’t won a single trophy in 13 years of IPL edition. It seems like KL Rahul will lead the team in IPL 2021 as well and the franchise will hope for the best as they have the best young talent to utilize.
