IPL 2021: Gautam Gambhir doesn’t find Steve Smith a good fit for Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals on Thursday in the Indian Premier League’s mini-auction bought former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith for Rs. 2.2 crore. They spend a total of 11.25 crore on the auction to add some players to the squad ahead of IPL 2021. Smith was released by the franchise Rajasthan Royals and he kept his base price Rs. 2 crore

However, the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir did not pleased with their decision of buying Steve Smith. He believes that Capitals are strong enough and he doesn’t think Smith will fit in the playing 11 because of too many other talented players. During the conversation on Star Sports, he said that the Iyer-led side has a lot of top-order batsmen and he is not seeing Smith replacing them.

“Steve Smith doesn’t fit into the Delhi Capitals playing XI. They are probably too top-heavy, where are they going to push him. They have got Shikhar Dhawan, who was in very good form, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant,” said Gambhir.

Gambhir also led Delhi Capitals for an IPL season and stepped down from the captaincy mid-way, after which he retired from franchise cricket.

“They will definitely play Shimron Hetmyer in the middle order and Marcus Stoinis. Anrich Nortje and Rabada did really really well for them. Now they have got Chris Woakes as well. So, I don’t see him actually in the playing XI,” added Gambhir.
