Faf du Plessis is a very important part of Chennai Super King’s team and he has proven it yet again by smashing a fantastic fifty in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders. It came at a time when his team needed someone to step up and take a charge of the situation.
It was supposed to be a high-octane encounter, but it certainly did not start as one. Kolkata Knight Riders started off well with the ball, they maintained tight lines and did not allow CSK batsmen to open their hands. Faf did not look to be in touch at the start of the inning. He was suffering against both spin and pace. While Ruturaj took charge of the situation, du Plessis played the role of the anchor. Slowly he found his stride, and after Gaikwad lost his wicket to Narine, du Plessis alongside Uthappa built a solid inning for his team. While Uthappa remained the aggressor, du Plessis continued to play his role of anchoring the inning. At the same time, however, he continued playing an aggressive shot. In the 11th over he took on Lockie Ferguson to score 16 runs off him. He reached his half-century in the same over.
After Uthappa was dismissed by Narine, Faf du Plessis took on the role of being the stroke player to ensure that his team reached a competitive total of 19 2 in their 20 overs. du Plessis scored a great inning of 86 runs with help of 7 fours and 3 sixes in 59 balls at a strike rate of 145.
