IPL tweeted on Wednesday that, on February 18, the player auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is going to held in Chennai.
After the IPL 2020 which was held in UAE behind the closed doors due to Covid-19 from September to November, the 14th edition of IPL is likely to be held in India this year.
However, before the auction several star players like Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith and Aaron Flinch were detained by their teams. Although many teams preferred to continue their core as some players like Robin Uthappa exchanged team from Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings.
In total 139 players is going to continue whereas 57 got detained ahead of the auction.
Dale Steyn, South African pacer made himself unavailable for Royal Challengers Banglore whereas Pathiv Patel, Steyn’s former teammate retired from all cricket.
While Harbhajan’s deal wasn’t renewed by Chennai Super Kings, Laslith Malinga declared his retirement from franchise cricket.
After the departure of Steve Smith was appointed as the new captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), who lead the team in the IPL last year (2020).
