IPL 2020: Top 3 all time records almost impossible to break

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) is set to break the stage from September 19 till the 10th of November in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Over the years, fans have witnessed some jaw-dropping display of cricket, some of which are just too unreal to be true. From CSK qualifying for knockouts in every edition they have played so far to Chris Gayle hitting 175 runs, let’s take a look at three such records which are nearly impossible to break.

1. Gayle hits 37 runs off one over in 2011

Majestic Jamaican opener Christopher Henry Gayle can prove to be a horror show for any bowler that comes up against him when he is in rhythm and has shattered a host of records with his bat. Known for dismantling any bowling lineup on his day, Gayle in his first season with the RCB franchise in 2011 smashed 37 runs in one over bowled by Prasanth Parameshwaran.

The first ball was a six followed by another one-off a no-ball and the next two were dispatched for fours with the last three balls going for a six, six and a four.

Scoring 36 runs in an over is itself a big task and so surpassing the record of 37 runs in an over is something that would be almost impossible to achieve.

2. CSK has qualified for playoffs in every season they have participated

Chennai Super Kings hold a unique record of entitling for the playoffs in all the seasons they have played so far. No other team has managed to achieve this feat so far. Since the beginning of the league back in 2008, Chennai under the leadership of Captain Cool MS Dhoni has reached the playoffs in every season till 2015 before they were handed a suspension of 2 seasons for their alleged role in match-fixing.

They marked their highly awaited return in 2018 by winning the trophy in a glamorous fashion and once again marked their presence in the following IPL 2019 season by reaching the playoffs. This is an extraordinary record for the franchise from the South of India and it would take a special team to break this one.

3. Largest ever win-margin (IPL 2017)

In the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians completely rattled through the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) batting lineup with their fiery bowling attack. The hosts from Delhi ended up losing the encounter by a massive 146-run margin.

Chasing a whooping total of 213 set by the visitors was going to be a difficult task, but surely no one anticipated that the batting lineup of Delhi would crumble for a mere 66 runs in just 13.4 overs. The gigantic win in that match also confirmed a place for Mumbai Indians in the playoffs for that season.

The victory margin of 146-runs for Mumbai is one of the biggest victories (by runs) in the IPL’s history.
