Amit Mishra is a right-arm leg-break bowler. He was born on 24th November 1982 and hails from Delhi. Often regarded as the next big thing, Mishra has never lived up to the expectations in international cricket. Despite being one of the most highly rated leg-spinners in the country. Mishra has played just 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India.

He made his ODI debut on 13th April 2003 against South Africa in the TVS cup at Dhaka. He was subsequently called up to play for the test team in 2002 against West Indies but did not make the starting XI. He had to wait for almost 6 years to make his test debut in 2008 against Australia in Mohali. He had a brilliant outing as he took a fifer in the first innings which helped India defeat the mighty Aussies.

Amit Mishra rose to glory after Anil Kumble’s retirement and was a regular part of the squad in 2011.

Amit Mishra’s contribution in the first season of IPL in 2008 earned him the national team call-up. Amit Mishra’s standout season was the 2013 season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) which saw him scalp 21 wickets

Amit Mishra’s strong IPL performance in 2013 earned him an ODI cap for the Champions Trophy and later for Zimbabwe tour.

In Asia cup 2014, Mishra impressed by conceding only 28 runs from his 10 overs and took 2 wickets throughout the tournament. He was adjudged the Player of the series in New Zealand’s 2016- 17 tour.

Despite making strong statements in the international scene, Mishra failed to live up to the expectations of many due to rise of bowlers like Jadeja, Ashwin  post the retirement of Anil Kumble.

  • He also holds the record for the most hat-tricks in IPL history. Out of the 19 hat-tricks in IPL history, Amit Mishra is accountable for 3 of them. The hat-tricks came for three different IPL teams namely Delhi Daredevils (2008), Deccan Chargers (2011) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013).
  • His 18 wickets in the series against Zimbabwe is equal to Javagal Srinath’s world record for most wickets in a bilateral ODI series
