England batter Harry Brook, who withdrew from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for Delhi Capitals due to personal reasons, is gearing up to make a comeback to competitive cricket next week.
Brook, who was signed by the Delhi Capitals for INR 4 crore in the December auctions, opted out of both the recent Test series in India and the ongoing IPL season following the passing of his grandmother, prioritizing his family.
Despite missing out on the IPL action, cricket fans can expect to see Brook back in action soon. He is set to feature for his county side, Yorkshire, in their opening match of the County Championship season against Leicestershire, commencing on April 5th.
Expressing his delight at Brook’s availability, Yorkshire head coach Ottis Gibson stated, “Now that Brooky isn’t going to the IPL, I suspect he’s going to be available to us for the first few games… Having those two [Brook and Joe Root] playing for us would be special.”
The decision to skip the IPL was also influenced by workload management, with the T20 World Cup scheduled to commence on June 1st. England is keen on retaining their title, and balancing the demands of IPL and Test cricket could have strained Brook ahead of the prestigious tournament.
