In an interview with JioHotstar and Jatin Sapru, Rohit Sharma opened up about how he naturally connects with young players, acknowledging that times have changed since he was a youngster in the dressing room. “Yeh mera natural hai, humesha aise hi raha hoon. Mein bhi uss umar ka kabhi tha, I know I had senior players around and we never got freedom,” Rohit said, reflecting on the difference in environment between then and now.
While he clarified, “It’s not that I give full freedom,” he emphasized that today’s generation is ‘bindaas’ and that it wouldn’t be fair to treat them the same way senior players were treated years ago.
When asked what has changed, Rohit shared a humorous anecdote:
“When we used to come to the dressing room, we used to quietly put our kit bags aside and just sit down. Today’s youngsters walk in saying, ‘Aree gana chala na yaar!’”
He laughed while recalling how intimidating it was back in the day,
“Our seniors used to look at us like, ‘Kaun hai yeh? Kiska aawaz aa raha hai?’”
The India and MI veteran admitted that such experiences shaped his approach to leadership—more inclusive, understanding, and relaxed with the next generation of stars.
