Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a history of putting out low totals in the Indian Premier League. This has created memorable moments in the league but the team on the other side of them may not rather remember those, especially captain Virat Kohli. This time too, they got dismissed for 92 against the Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening match of the 2nd phase of IPL at the Sheikh Zahid Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
The most memorable among them has to be that they got dismissed for 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2017 season when the latter set a modest target of 132. This was not the first time they got dismissed so cheaply against KKR. The first match of IPL 2008 was remembered for Brendon McCullum’s 158 but RCB was also knocked out cheaply in the match for 82. Hence, this was the third RCB that got out to KKR in this fashion.
CSK has also been at the end of some epic RCB collapses. They were dismissed for 87 at Port Elizabeth in 2009. At least, they were runners up that season. 2019 had no such respite for them as they got dismissed for 70 at Chennai.
Another factoid in this is that this instance was the second time RCB got cheaply dismissed in such a manner at the Sheikh Zahid Stadium. In the 2014 IPL, they were dismissed for 70 against Rajasthan Royals. Both of those teams ended up not qualifying for the knockout rounds.
RCB may have the lowest totals in the history of the IPL but this has given life to the history of the franchise. RCB fans will just hope they don’t get lower than these scores.
