Faf du Plessis opts to bat first as CSK take on RCB in IPL 2024

The 2024 IPL season gets underway with a mouth-watering clash at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Faf du Plessis, the RCB captain, called correctly and chose to bat first in what appeared to be a good batting wicket. RCB captain Faf du Plessis was reunited at the toss with his former CSK opening partner Rituraj Gaikwad, who was making his captaincy debut for the franchise this evening.

Faf du Plessis’ RCB walked into an impressive M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, and the former CSK skipper expressed his delight to be back at the stadium, albeit in a different color jersey, and hoped to pull a surprise over an excellent CSK team, given how experienced they are.

The teams were not leaving out any big names from their respective playing XIs, and Faf is likely to open with Virat Kohli, who is playing his first match after the birth of his son. CSK announced Rituraj as their captain this year, and Rituraj said he felt privileged to do this job for the side.

Feel privledged. But I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes. (On captaincy) I got to know last week, but Mahi bhai hinted at it last year. Everyone is experienced here, sadly we are missing Conway and Pathirana. We’ve got Rachin and Mitchell coming in though this year so they should fit in well. Looks like a good pitch, a hard surface that should hold up well for the second innings. Four overseas – Mitchell, Rachin, Fizz and Theekshana. The domestic player Sameer Rizvi is making his debut as well.
