“Dhoni should not be retained by CSK” Aakash Chopra suggests.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been with the CSK franchise for a long time. Back in 2008, MS Dhoni was bought by CSK for a huge amount of 1.5 million US Dollars. He proved his price tag by leading his team into the finals of the very first season of the IPL. The CSK franchise has been the most consistent team in the IPL for 12 years as it is the only team which has consistently qualified for the playoffs each season barring this year under his captaincy. The CSK team has played a record 8 finals of the tournament, winning 3 of them. The CSK franchise has also been the first team to successfully defend their title by winning the trophy two consecutive years. Their third title came in the year 2018 where the team was making their comeback after completing 2 year ban.

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket earlier this year in August. He didn’t play any cricket after the World Cup Semi Final against New Zealand. His first outing after a year was in IPL. That lack of practice was quite evident as he had tough time while batting and sometimes even during his keeping. This year his performance was not up to the mark as he scored 200 runs in 14 matches with an average of 25 along with a stirke rate of 116.27. His wicket keeping was also not going well as he dropped a few easy catches which impacted results of the match. This year was the first time in the history of IPL that CSK did not qualify to the playoffs.

Aakash Chopra who is a former India cricketer reviewed CSK’s performance this year and commented that CSK should look for the future and should not retain DHONI, instead use RTM card for him and buy him back at a cheaper price. He further added that they should not look to retain any players instead should buy them back so that they could get more money in their bag going into the auction and look for some better alternatives for some players. He strongly believes that Kedar Jadhav is also done in the IPL along with Shane Watson who retired after the last match of CSK this year. All this has been suggested by him only if the mega auctions take place before the next edition of IPL.
