Delhi Capitals debutant Ripal Patel says playing against MS Dhoni was a fanboy moment

The Delhi Capitals debutant Ripal Patel couldn’t believe that he played his first match of IPL against MS Dhoni and said it is a fanboy moment for him.

MS Dhoni has been around the game long enough to be considered a legend of the game. He has performed heroics nobody can ever repeat. From winning matches for his teams from impossible situations to inflicting lightning-fast stumpings, his legacy is unfathomable. However, all these records can be conquered by someone else. The history is always made and then repeated, but what cannot be repeated about MS Dhoni’s legacy is the impact he has had on the coming generations of cricketers and Ripal Patel of Delhi Capitals is another addition to it.

On Monday evening, Ripal Patel, a 26-year-old boy from Nadiad, made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals. And that too against the team of his childhood idol MS Dhoni. According to Patel, MS. Dhoni was the reason he decided to pursue cricket.

“I started playing cricket waiting Mahi Bhai and I am looking to become a finisher like him,” Patel was quoted as saying in a released issue by his franchise DC.

Talking about his experience as a debutant, the youngster added that he was very happy when he received his cap from Amit Mishra. He wasn’t very nervous going into the game, as he felt that he belonged here. Also, there was not much pressure on him since when he came out to bat his team required just a run-a-ball to win the game. He regretted the fact though that he couldn’t finish the game.

Sharing his insight to the conversation he had with Dhoni post the match, Patel said, “I asked him how he finishes every match how he thinks on the field and what goes on his mind while chasing a score.”

Ripal Patel scored 18 runs in 20 balls, as Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings with 3 wickets. With 20 points they sit on top of the points table.
